Looking Back (Week of 11/04/18)
Agriculture Tractor.png

Pre-K students had so much fall fun on the farm!  We learned all about the different chores that people have throughout the year when they live on the farm.  We also learned about the different types of farms that exist and how they are helpful to us.  We enjoyed some fictional stories as well, including four different versions of The Little Red Hen.  We had fun comparing them and we found that they had some very different story elements.  We completed a character sorting activity and voted to see which version was enjoyed by the most people.  We worked on several farm-related art activities, including a tractor and a little red hen baking bread.

Our letter of the week was Ff.  We started the week by making feathery letter F crafts and completing a letter Ff phonics sorting activity.  Later, we practiced writing the letter Ff on paper and in our notebooks.  We also learned a poem and a song about Ff and found many words that begin with this fun letter on our alphabet chart.  We enjoyed letter Ff Show and Tell by the boys on Friday.

In math, we worked on identifying rectangles and other shapes.  We enjoyed making different shapes and completing shape challenges in the math center using our craft sticks.  We also worked on a graphing activity, which helped us to practice counting and comparing quantities.  We completed our classroom shape book and had so much fun reading it in the library center.

Looking Ahead (Week of 11/12/18)
Turkey And Harvest.png

Our upcoming week will be beautiful as we begin preparations for Thanksgiving.  We will focus on this wonderful holiday as our theme and we will create some Thanksgiving artwork, including a hand print place mat, a cornucopia, and a painted turkey.  We will also read both fictional and informational texts in order to learn more about this celebration and enjoy the beauty of the season.  We will have our Pre-K Thanksgiving snack on Friday, November 16, along with the other Pre-K classes.

 Blocks G.png

Our letter of the week will be Gg.  We will work on making the sound of Gg and identifying the shape of the letter.  We will practice tracing and writing the letter Gg after learning a poem and a song about Gg.  We will also celebrate Gg by wearing green to school on Wednesday.  Please note that Show and Tell will also be on Wednesday next week and it will be for girls.

In math, we will continue to enjoy our shape challenge activity using our craft sticks.  We will also work on a Thanksgiving pattern activity and a counting activity.  We will complete a shape counting game at circle time and we will continue to work on our November calendar pattern each day.

*Our color of the week will be green.  We invite students to wear green to school on Wednesday.

*Hot lunch is now available to Pre-K students.  If you would like to order lunch for your child, please be sure to put exact change in an envelope in his or her folder that morning.  The lunch menu can be found on the main homepage (ndsnet.org).  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you!

*Please be sure to send your child's snack in a bag that is separate from the lunchbox/lunch bag.  Please put the bag into your child's backpack and not in the lunchbox.  Additionally, any money that is being sent to school must be in the folder.  Thank you!

Arrival Procedures
Valet Service is an option that you may like to use in the morning. If you are opting to use the Valet Service, there are a few rules that you must follow in order to ensure the safety of the children as well as the adults on supervision.

Below are a few guidelines for the use of Valet Service
1. The teachers/teacher aides will stand at "checkpoints". The "checkpoints" include one teacher at the door, one at the gate, and three teachers along the sidewalk of Mayfair Road for the cars. The teachers at the sidewalk help children out of the cars and watch as they walk to the next "checkpoint". Be sure not to block checkpoints, instead stand to the side so that all teachers are able to see all children at all times.
2. The cars must pull up to the teachers three at a time. The teacher greets the child and helps them out of the car. The cars then leave together, being cautious as to not pull around the car in front of them. Also be aware of oncoming traffic and those who are not using the Valet Service.
3. The next set of cars may pull up to the teachers when the first set leaves.
4. Please DO NOT let the children out of the car unattended. Please wait for the teacher to open the car door. It is dangerous to allow any Nursery/Pre-K child to open the door and allow themselves out of the car.  Please do not leave your car.  The teachers will help each child out of the car.
4. Please do not drive faster than 20 miles per hour.
5. If you are opting to not use the Valet Line, please park your car in a safe place (please do not block driveways). Kindly walk your child to the South Gate.
6. When driving, be sure to follow the law.  Always follow the rules of the road.
7. Valet Service runs from 8:35-8:45am. It is a 10-minute window. If you are running late, it is not a problem. If the Valet time is over, you may park your car and walk to the front of the building. The front door will be open to you.
8. If your child is reluctant to leave the car on the Valet Line and shows a struggle, kindly pull up to a safe area, park, and then walk your child to the South Gate.
9. Please remember that pets may NOT be in your car if you are using the Valet arrival.  Thank you!

We thank you so much for your cooperation regarding these important regulations.  We all share the common goal of keeping everyone safe each and every day, and we truly appreciate your help in ensuring a safe and smooth arrival each morning.
Thank you!

Dismissal Procedures
Students will be dismissed at the South Entrance at 11:15 AM or 3:00 PM.  At the Parent Orientation, I ask that you let me know who will be regularly picking up your child.  If another adult will pick up your child, please let me know that day via a signed note in the morning and provide a photocopy of that person's photo identification.  Please ask that person to bring photo identification to school on that day to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal.  Thank you!

*If you would like to make use of Morning Care or After Care, please be sure to return the necessary paperwork to the office.  Thank you!

r letter study has been completed!  It is time for us to review the letters we have learned, including how to write them and what sounds they make.  We will work on sorting words by beginning sound as well as two fun rhyming activities.  In math, we will work on making sets of ten and counting to ten in different ways.  We will read a story about the number ten and fill in a ten frame.  We will also review the addition and subtraction poems that we learned during the past week.
Our upcoming week will be fun as we focus on the theme of "Dinosaurs."  We will read all about these interesting creatures using both informational and fictional texts.  We will create watercolor dinosaurs to decorate our classroom and we will complete a dinosaur counting activity.  We will also make our own fossils and enjoy a dinosaur dig with the other Pre-K classes.
