We had a wonderful week together in Pre-K!  It was so exciting to explore more of our school.  We learned a pledge of kindness and some important classroom rules that have been helpful to us.  We also learned a great poem about welcoming each other to school and we learned about greeting new friends in different ways.  We focused on making friends and our different families and qualities.  Students also finished their All About Me books after completing a family page and a handprint page!

Next week we will celebrate the beginning of a new season!  We will begin to observe the signs of fall that we can identify.  We will focus on a theme of "Apples" as we begin autumn.  We will have an apple taste test on Friday to determine which apple colors are our favorites.  Please be sure to let me know if your child should not taste the apple.  We will create graphs to show our favorite apples as well as our favorite ways to enjoy apples.  We will work on apple projects including an apple seed poem and an apple sun catcher.  We will also learn about the story of Johnny Appleseed.  Finally, we will celebrate the color red on Friday so students are invited to wear red if they would like to do so.

Next week, we will begin our letter study!  We will start with letter Aa and we will work on making the sound of Aa and writing the letter on paper.  We will also write the letter Aa in our notebooks and work on tracing and writing our names.  We invite the girls to bring in a letter Aa object on Friday for Show and Tell if they would like to do so.  All students are invited to bring in pictures of letter Aa objects for our classroom letter book.

Reminders

*Our Apple Taste Test will take place on Friday, September 28th.  We will taste red, yellow, and green apples and decide which ones are our favorites.  If your child should not taste the apples, please let me know via e-mail by Wednesday, 9/26.  Thank you!

*Please keep in mind that hot lunch will not be available until Monday, October 1st.  Milk is available now.  Thank you!  

*Please be sure to send your child's snack in a bag that is separate from the lunchbox/lunch bag.  Please put the bag into your child's backpack and not in the lunchbox.  Additionally, any money that is being sent to school must be in the folder.  Thank you!

*Please note that Full-day students should bring in one towel or blanket for rest time on the first day of school.  We will use the towel for the week and send it home each Friday afternoon.  Full-day students should also bring in a snack as well as a lunch each day.  Both Full-day and Half-day students should bring their folder to school each day in their backpack.  Thank you!

*Our first Show and Tell experience will be for girls on Friday, September 28th and the letter is Aa.

*Students are invited to wear red on Friday.

*Students are invited to bring in a picture of a letter Aa item for our classroom letter book.

Arrival Procedures 
Valet Service is an option that you may like to use in the morning. If you are opting to use the Valet Service, there are a few rules that you must follow in order to ensure the safety of the children as well as the adults on supervision.

Below are a few guidelines for the use of Valet Service
1. The teachers/teacher aides will stand at "checkpoints". The "checkpoints" include one teacher at the door, one at the gate, and three teachers along the sidewalk of Mayfair Road for the cars. The teachers at the sidewalk help children out of the cars and watch as they walk to the next "checkpoint". Be sure not to block checkpoints, instead stand to the side so that all teachers are able to see all children at all times.
2. The cars must pull up to the teachers three at a time. The teacher greets the child and helps them out of the car. The cars then leave together, being cautious as to not pull around the car in front of them. Also be aware of oncoming traffic and those who are not using the Valet Service.
3. The next set of cars may pull up to the teachers when the first set leaves.
4. Please DO NOT let the children out of the car unattended. Please wait for the teacher to open the car door. It is dangerous to allow any Nursery/Pre-K child to open the door and allow themselves out of the car.  Please do not leave your car.  The teachers will help each child out of the car.
4. Please do not drive faster than 20 miles per hour.
5. If you are opting to not use the Valet Line, please park your car in a safe place (please do not block driveways). Kindly walk your child to the South Gate.
6. When driving, be sure to follow the law.  Always follow the rules of the road.
7. Valet Service runs from 8:35-8:45am. It is a 10-minute window. If you are running late, it is not a problem. If the Valet time is over, you may park your car and walk to the front of the building. The front door will be open to you.
8. If your child is reluctant to leave the car on the Valet Line and shows a struggle, kindly pull up to a safe area, park, and then walk your child to the South Gate.
9. Please remember that pets may NOT be in your car if you are using the Valet arrival.  Thank you!


We thank you so much for your cooperation regarding these important regulations.  We all share the common goal of keeping everyone safe each and every day, and we truly appreciate your help in ensuring a safe and smooth arrival each morning.

Dismissal Procedures
Students will be dismissed at the South Entrance at 11:15 AM or 3:00 PM.  At the Parent Orientation, I ask that you let me know who will be regularly picking up your child.  If another adult will pick up your child, please let me know that day via a signed note in the morning and provide a photocopy of that person's photo identification.  Please ask that person to bring photo identification to school on that day to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal.  Thank you!

*If you would like to make use of Morning Care or After Care, please be sure to return the necessary paperwork to the office.  Thank you!
