Looking Back (Week of 5/13/19)
Bookworm.png
We learned all about many types of insects this week!  The students had many questions and enjoyed reading some informational texts in order to find the answers.  We learned about a butterfly's life cycle and the parts of an insect.  We also read about ladybugs and created ladybug artwork.  We are preparing to welcome real ladybugs to our classroom during the upcoming week so that we can learn more about this interesting creatures.  We also worked on a painted butterfly, a bumblebee, and a three-dimensional caterpillar.

Our letter of the week was Zz!  We learned about this letter by reading a poem and looking for Zz pictures on our alphabet chart.  We found many Zz words and then practiced tracing and writing letter Zz on paper and in our notebooks.  We completed a zebra craft after reading all about zebras.  We saw many zebras during Show and Tell on Friday!  In math, we worked on counting sets of items.  We also completed an insect pattern activity and an insect counting activity.

Looking Ahead (Week of 5/20/19)

The week ahead will be exciting as we begin to see the stages of a ladybug's life up close.  We will observe these creatures to see how they grow and change over the coming days and weeks.  We will also focus on a dinosaur theme this week by reading about them.  We will enjoy both fictional and informational books about dinosaurs and we will create painted dinosaur artwork throughout the week.  We will classify dinosaurs according to their diets and we will enjoy an outdoor "Dino Dig" on a sunny day!
Number Animals.png
In the math center, we will work on a dinosaur counting game.  We will also practice writing numerals to identify sets of items.  At circle time, we will work on combining sets of shapes to make larger sets.  We will also have fun in the literacy center playing Alphabet Bingo and we will practice writing the letters we have been learning about.  We will play our letter sound sorting game each day and practice reading some of the words we know.

Arrival Procedures
Valet Service is an option that you may like to use in the morning. If you are opting to use the Valet Service, there are a few rules that you must follow in order to ensure the safety of the children as well as the adults on supervision.

Below are a few guidelines for the use of Valet Service
1. The teachers/teacher aides will stand at "checkpoints". The "checkpoints" include one teacher at the door, one at the gate, and three teachers along the sidewalk of Mayfair Road for the cars. The teachers at the sidewalk help children out of the cars and watch as they walk to the next "checkpoint". Be sure not to block checkpoints, instead stand to the side so that all teachers are able to see all children at all times.
2. The cars must pull up to the teachers three at a time. The teacher greets the child and helps them out of the car. The cars then leave together, being cautious as to not pull around the car in front of them. Also be aware of oncoming traffic and those who are not using the Valet Service.
3. The next set of cars may pull up to the teachers when the first set leaves.
4. Please DO NOT let the children out of the car unattended. Please wait for the teacher to open the car door. It is dangerous to allow any Nursery/Pre-K child to open the door and allow themselves out of the car.  Please do not leave your car.  The teachers will help each child out of the car.
4. Please do not drive faster than 20 miles per hour.
5. If you are opting to not use the Valet Line, please park your car in a safe place (please do not block driveways). Kindly walk your child to the South Gate.
6. When driving, be sure to follow the law.  Always follow the rules of the road.
7. Valet Service runs from 8:35-8:45am. It is a 10-minute window. If you are running late, it is not a problem. If the Valet time is over, you may park your car and walk to the front of the building. The front door will be open to you.
8. If your child is reluctant to leave the car on the Valet Line and shows a struggle, kindly pull up to a safe area, park, and then walk your child to the South Gate.
9. Please remember that pets may NOT be in your car if you are using the Valet arrival.  Thank you!

We thank you so much for your cooperation regarding these important regulations.  We all share the common goal of keeping everyone safe each and every day, and we truly appreciate your help in ensuring a safe and smooth arrival each morning.
Thank you!

Dismissal Procedures
Students will be dismissed at the South Entrance at 11:15 AM or 3:00 PM.  At the Parent Orientation, I ask that you let me know who will be regularly picking up your child.  If another adult will pick up your child, please let me know that day via a signed note in the morning and provide a photocopy of that person's photo identification.  Please ask that person to bring photo identification to school on that day to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal.  Thank you!

*If you would like to make use of Morning Care or After Care, please be sure to return the necessary paperwork to the office.  Thank you!

r letter study has been completed!  It is time for us to review the letters we have learned, including how to write them and what sounds they make.  We will work on sorting words by beginning sound as well as two fun rhyming activities.  In math, we will work on making sets of ten and counting to ten in different ways.  We will read a story about the number ten and fill in a ten frame.  We will also review the addition and subtraction poems that we learned during the past week.
Our upcoming week will be fun as we focus on the theme of "Dinosaurs."  We will read all about these interesting creatures using both informational and fictional texts.  We will create watercolor dinosaurs to decorate our classroom and we will complete a dinosaur counting activity.  We will also make our own fossils and enjoy a dinosaur dig with the other Pre-K classes.
