Our fifth grade scientists engage in many hands-on activities throughout the year, which integrate Math and Language Arts. As part of our study of Ecosystems, the 5th graders participate in activities which allow them to role play. In one activity, students enact the various parts of a deer community. In another activity the students experience what it feels like to be a part of an owl family gathering food. The students then record, graph, and analyze the data collected to identify patterns and draw conclusions. Students always love the unit on crayfish and enjoy having the crayfish in class. Eligible students are able to participate in Math Olympiads.
