Counting to 120
In this lesson children use a 120 chart to count up by 1s from any given number
within 120. They look for patterns in the 120 chart that show relationships between numbers. They identify numbers that are 1 more than a given number, and they pick up the count and continue the counting sequence from any number. They count objects that are in groups of ten with extra ones and relate these quantities to the multiples of 10 on the 120 chart.

Lent
The students will learn that Lent is a time of preparation for Easter that lasts for forty days. It is a time to become closer to God. We will discuss that during this time we say extra prayers, give to others and fast or “give up” something ourselves.
The first grade students will begin a project for the Lenten season. Each night, Monday through Thursday, a child in our class will bring home our class Resurrection Eggs. As you read about Jesus’ journey, your children can open the eggs with the corresponding number to find symbols inside. When you are finished, please put the objects back in the eggs and return everything to school the next day. Your child should then complete the writing activity called My Lenten Promises.
