Chapter 10 - Data and Graphical Displays
**Chapter 10 Assessment - Wednesday, April 14.**
In this chapter, the children will continue working with the addition and subtraction concepts they learned in the earlier chapters as they explore the Essential Question: How can you use tally charts and picture graphs to display data? They apply their understanding of addition and subtraction to make sense of and answer questions about the data.
Chapter 11 - Addition: Two-Digit Numbers
In this chapter, children will focus on using different addition strategies to find sums of two-digit numbers as they explore the Essential Question: How can you add two-digit numbers? They will learn the strategies of breaking apart addends, place value and counting on. Children will also explore problem solving by using bar models to solve word problems involving two-digit addition.
Religion
Jesus Grows Up
The children will learn about the daily life of The Holy Family as Jesus was growing up. At this time, the kind of life that Mary, Joseph and Jesus knew was difficult at times but it was also simple and good. Mary took care of the home and She also taught Jesus about God and the Jewish laws, prayers and rituals. Joseph worked hard in his carpentry shop, making furniture for the people of the town of Nazareth. Students will learn that Saint Joseph’s role was as provider and protector of the Holy Family. Saint Joseph protected Jesus and Mary, he is the protector of the Catholic Church.

The Sky
The students have been learning about the sky. This week we learned all about the sun and the moon. We did a science experiment called, “What melts in the sun?” We explored the power of the sun as well as the different states of matter as we left different objects out in the sun and observed what happened.
Social Studies
Inventors
The students will be learning that an inventor is the first person to create a new item or a different way of doing something. Inventors are creative thinkers who try to look for ways to solve problems. The children will be learning about some of the most famous inventors in history as well as some of their inventions that we still use today!
