Educating Hearts and Minds for
More than Sixty-Five Years
It was nice seeing all the familiar faces as last year's fifth graders returned as sixth graders for the 20-21 school year. We welcome Brian to our class. The students did a wonderful job transitioning to the "new normal." They are used to wearing their masks and staying in the same seats throughout the school day. They exhibit good "meet etiquette" while they are logged into their special classes, and they have been very responsible with charging their Chromebooks every night.
The students' schedule is posted on Google Classroom. Students wear their gym uniform on gym day, which is Friday.
In order to meet the diocesan requirement of reading twenty-five books a year, the students are keeping a reading log and summarizing the books they read. An outline to help them with their summarizes is posted in their ELA Google Classroom. After the student finishes reading a book, he/she must log it on the "reading record" (also available on Google Classroom) and summarize the book. We have a subscription to Storyworks magazine. The articles can also be found online at storyworks.scholastic.com. The students can log in at the student site through Google Classroom, or they can use the student password. (The password is the name of our "class pet" followed by my room number.)
The students also have the opportunity to order from Scholastic Book Club every month. The easiest method of ordering from Scholastic is online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. Use our one-time Class Activation Code when you register: LMVKP. If you wish to pay by check, please make check out to Scholastic Book Clubs. Thank you for not sending cash in with the orders.
The intent of the learning standards is to ensure the success of students in college and careers. The "Parent Roadmaps" link below is a good resource to explain the CC.
